What are the benefits of dental implants?

Dental implants are a revolutionary dental treatment that can restore the beauty of your smile and provide you with long-term dental health benefits.

They are a permanent solution for missing teeth, and they look and feel just like natural teeth. Dental implants offer numerous advantages over traditional dentures or bridges:

  • Natural Appearance – Dental implants blend seamlessly into your current dental structure, ensuring that your smile looks as natural as possible.
  • Durability – With proper care, dental implants can last up to 25 years or even longer! This makes them an excellent investment for restoring oral health long-term.
  • Comfort – Unlike removable dentures or bridges, dental implants do not have to be taken out for cleaning or any other reason. They stay in place and provide a comfortable, stable base for dental prosthetics like crowns and bridges.
  • Improved Confidence – Dental implants look and feel just like natural teeth, allowing you to smile with confidence knowing that your teeth look great.
  • Improved Oral Health – Dental implants help prevent jawbone deterioration which occurs when missing teeth are not replaced. This helps maintain the shape of the jaw line, preserves dental function and ensures the overall health of your mouth.

Why dental implants?

Dental implants are the preferred method of tooth replacement for a number of reasons:

  • They provide a long-term solution to dental health problems. Unlike dentures or dental bridges, dental implants are surgically placed into the jawbone and fuse with the surrounding bone tissue. This creates an incredibly strong bond that lasts indefinitely.
  • Dental implants provide superior stability when compared to other forms of dental restorations. Because they are securely anchored to your jawbone, dental implants do not slip or move as you speak or chew, providing greater comfort and confidence when eating and speaking.
  • Dental implants look natural in appearance and can blend seamlessly with your existing teeth. Additionally, because dental implants help preserve healthy bone structure, they can help preserve the natural shape of your face.
  • Unlike dentures or dental bridges, dental implants do not require any special cleaning or maintenance. They are designed to be permanent, so you can brush and floss normally when caring for them.
  • Dental implants can also help prevent further dental health issues by providing support for other teeth in the surrounding area. This helps reduce the potential for tooth decay, gum disease and even TMJ disorder.
  • Finally, dental implants provide an overall improvement in oral health due to their strong bond with the jawbone. This helps stimulate new bone growth to fill in any gaps left behind from missing teeth and prevents future dental issues from occurring.

Overall, dental implants are the preferred method of tooth replacement due to their long-term solution, superior stability, natural appearance, ease of maintenance and dental health benefits. If you have missing teeth or need dental restoration work, dental implants may be an excellent choice for you.

Am I a good candidate for dental implants?

When deciding if oral surgery is the right option for a patient, surgeons will take into account several factors. These include dental history, overall health condition and medical history, any medications the patient is currently taking, dental imaging such as X-rays and CT scans to assess bone structure, and current dental needs.

In addition, surgeons may recommend dental implants in certain cases where tooth decay or trauma has caused significant dental damage. Dental implants are titanium roots surgically inserted into the jawbone which then provide support for prosthetic teeth. This type of oral surgery requires extensive planning prior to undergoing treatment due to the intricate nature of dental implant placement.

Once all information has been gathered and reviewed by our surgeon, an individual plan is created for each patient. The plan will outline the type of dental work that is needed, any laboratory work that might be necessary, types of anesthesia (if needed), and the steps involved in recovery.

After all factors are taken into consideration, our surgeon may then decide on what type of oral surgery – if any – is best for the patient’s dental needs.

What are the stages of dental implants?

Stage 1:

The first stage of dental implants involves the surgical placement of the dental implant into the jawbone. This is a crucial step in the overall process of getting a dental implant, as it establishes the foundation upon which the replacement tooth will eventually be attached.

On the day of the surgery, the patient will typically receive a local anesthetic to numb the area around the implant site. In some cases, general anesthesia may be used to ensure the patient’s comfort throughout the procedure.

Using a small incision in the gum tissue, our oral surgeon will carefully drill a small hole into the jawbone and place the dental implant into the bone. The implant is typically made of a biocompatible material, such as titanium, which allows it to fuse with the bone over time in a process known as osseointegration.

The healing process typically takes several months, during which time the implant fuses with the bone and becomes a stable anchor for the replacement tooth. Once the implant has fully integrated with the jawbone, the patient can move on to the next stages of the process, which involve attaching an abutment and crown to complete the restoration.

Stage 2:

The second stage of dental implants involves attaching an abutment to the implant.

Once the implant has fully integrated, our surgeon will make a small incision in the gum tissue to expose the top of the implant. An abutment, which is a small metal post, is then attached to the implant. The abutment serves as a connection point for the replacement tooth or bridge.

The abutment may be either prefabricated or custom-made to fit the patient’s specific needs. Once the abutment is in place, the gum tissue is allowed to heal around it for several weeks.

After the abutment has healed, our oral surgeon will take impressions of the abutment and surrounding teeth to create a custom-made replacement tooth or bridge. This may involve taking digital scans of the mouth, or making physical impressions using dental putty.

Once the replacement tooth or bridge is ready, it is attached to the abutment using dental cement or screws. The new tooth is carefully positioned and adjusted to ensure a comfortable fit and a natural appearance.

Stage 3:

The third and final stage of dental implants involves the placement of the custom-made replacement tooth or bridge onto the abutment, completing the restoration process.

The replacement tooth is carefully positioned and adjusted to ensure a comfortable fit, and the patient will need to follow a strict post-operative care plan to ensure proper healing.

Overall, the three stages of dental implants require careful planning, skillful surgery, and proper post-operative care to ensure a successful outcome. With the right approach, our oral surgeon can help patients achieve a healthy, functional, and natural-looking smile with dental implants.

Dr. Sadaat at Wilshire Smile Studio was wonderful. I have been going to Wilshire Smile Studio for many years, and Dr. Sadaat performed an oral surgery procedure there for me. I was nervous, and he walked me through everything that would happen, and was patient with my questions. He periodically asked me if I was doing ok during the procedure.
